But he didn’t listen, he continued to tip toe out of the kitchen to the front of the house.

“Be careful,” I called out in a hushed voice.

I grabbed my phone off the counter, holding it tightly against my chest as I stood in the kitchen doorway, waiting.

A few long moments later Casey called out, “Veronica, it’s all clear. Come here.”

“Casey. Are you sure?” I responded as I quietly moved towards him. My skin was pebbled with goosebumps as I moved through the house, not sure what to expect.

When I arrived in the living room near the front door, I saw one of the large windows broken, shattered glass everywhere on the floor, and Casey standing in front of it with his back towards me.

My legs grew heavy as I drew closer to him. When I made my way to his front, I saw him holding a brick in one hand and a letter in the other.

My hand rose to my mouth. What in the hell was that? Did Casey have enemies?

“What is it?” I asked with a shaky voice.

He stood quietly for a moment clenching his jaw, muscles tensing and straining, as his face grew flush.

“Casey…what is it?” I asked again.

His eyes slowly rose to mine, “It’s your ex. He’s not done with you.”

Casey handed the letter to me which read:

You think you won? We’re just getting started.
