Final Exam(5)By: Natalie Deschain
He managed to get his arms under her and lift her onto the raft. The morning sun was hot on her bare skin even as the breeze was icy cold. She closed her eyes and luxuriated in it. Josh leaned against the side of the pool until he caught his breath, then slowly went to the shallow side and got up, awkwardly jumping out, now either oblivious or unconcerned for his nakedness. He walked over to the little shed, found some towels, and put them on the edge, then jumped back in. When she was ready to stand up, leaning on him, he put a towel around her nude body and helped her out, another wrapped around his own waist.
“Wow,” she finally managed.
“I hope you didn’t wake up the neighbors.”
“I don’t think anybody is home.”
There was a look of palpable relief on Josh’s face when he slid the mail aside and found his disk. Cindy looked at him for a moment, then shrugged and let her towel dropped and yanked on his where he’d knotted it at his hip, letting it pool around his feet. He blinked in confusion for a second and then said, “Hey!”
“Nothing you haven’t seen before,” she snickered, and sauntered off for the stairs.
She fell on her bed and listened as Josh went back into his room. She waited for a while and got up, pulled on her robe, and let it hang open around her naked body. Still a little wet, Josh sat on a bundled towel as he watched his final project printing. She sidled up to him and leaned on his side, and his hand snaked under her robe, resting on her hip.
“It’s a shame,” she said, “I’m going to go away to college, and never see you again.”
He sighed. “Cindy, we’re going to the same school.”
“Oh,” she said, in mock surprise. She leaned down and put her hands on his shoulders. “Maybe you could help me study.”
“Yeah,” he sighed, as the last few pages slid out.
She sauntered seductively to his bed, curled her robe around herself, and rolled onto it. “I think I need a nap.”
“Cindy,” he spun around, “What is this? You’re acting like I’m your boyfriend.”
She sat up, letting the robe spill around her sides, exposing her. “Don’t you like me?”
“Well, yeah,” he said, “but this is wrong, we’re-”
She got up, walked over to him, and straddled his thigh to sit on his lap. He kissed her.
“It’s not wrong,” she murmured as she leaned on him. “Nothing could be more right.”
He put his arms around her. “You didn’t have to steal my paper, you know.”
“Oh, yes, I did. You fuck better when you’re mad.”
“Just don’t do it again.”
“Uh huh,” she said, eyeing the disk marked “Calculus Notes” which sat prominently on his desk.
